Nicolas Colpaert joined the IAIS in August 2019. He is responsible for the management of financial stability projects such as the Global Monitoring Exercise (GME), the IAIS’ framework for assessing key risks and trends and the build-up of systemic risk in the global insurance sector. Key outcomes of the GME are reported to the Financial Stability Board.
Prior to joining the IAIS, Nicolas worked in the insurance prudential policy division of the National Bank of Belgium where he was responsible for stress testing as well as insurance prudential regulation with a focus on Solvency II.
Nicolas is an actuary and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst. He holds master’s degrees in the areas of Actuarial Science and Financial Engineering, Insurance and Applied Economics from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.
The GME enables the IAIS to perform a data-driven assessment of key risks and trends in the insurance sector, facilitating the global coordination of supervisory measures and allowing the IAIS to provide the insurance sector perspective to cross-sectoral bodies such as the Financial Stability Board (FSB). Key outcomes of our work are published in the IAIS’ Global Insurance Market Report (GIMAR).
