Chief Risk Officer, Old Mutual

Richard Treagus is the Chief Risk Officer for Old Mutual Limited, a large financial services group listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Old Mutual has businesses in 11 African countries and a joint venture in China, covering life insurance, P&C insurance, banking and asset management. The Group has a strong and trusted brand and a proud history of 179 years of helping people sustain, grow and protect their prosperity.

Richard has worked for the Old Mutual Group for more than three decades, in many different roles including Product Development, Distribution, Finance and Risk Management, in both retail and corporate sectors. In his current role as Chief Risk Officer, he leads the 2nd line function in providing risk, compliance and actuarial oversight and advisory services across the Group. He is particularly interested in systemic risk and the interconnectivity of different risk types, including the impact of climate change in amplifying other risks.
