Executive Director, Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii)

Matthias Range brings nearly two decades of expertise in strategic planning and project implementation in the fields of inclusive finance and insurance, climate and disaster risk management, and private sector development with GIZ. Until 2023, he led the Risk Finance and Insurance unit at GIZ. Since January 2024, he has been serving as the Executive Director at A2ii, the implementation arm of the IAIS for inclusive insurance.

This was prepared by a master’s degree in business administration with a focus on international marketing and change management at NUS Singapore and RWTH Aachen, Germany. Over the past 12 years, he has been instrumental in developing GIZ’s insurance portfolio and driving innovation in products and business opportunities across various technical departments. His career began with reconstruction efforts following the 2004 Tsunami in Sri Lanka and Aceh, Indonesia.

With more than 20 publications and numerous contributions to international conferences, as well as memberships on advisory boards such as CGAP, UC Davis, and ICII, Matthias Range is a recognized expert in the international development community. His work experience spans over 50 countries. Matthias and his family reside near the mountains in Munich, Bavaria.
