Global Head of Financial Institutions at Fitch Ratings
Marjan van der Weijden is the Global Head of Financial Institutions at Fitch Ratings. This group is responsible for assigning and monitoring credit ratings for Banks, Insurance Companies, Non-Bank Financial Institutions, and Fund and Asset Managers. In her role, Marjan oversees rating processes, criteria development, and analytical research.
Marjan joined Fitch in 1999 and has held a variety of roles in Asia and Europe, most recently serving as Global Head of Structured Finance and Covered Bonds. She is currently based in New York. Since January 2022, Marjan has been the chair of the Fitch Group Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council. In July of 2022, Fitch published their first 2021 DEI Transparency Report, which both identified areas of improvement at Fitch and long term, comprehensive strategies towards evening the racial, gender, sexuality, and nationality makeup at Fitch. In tandem with Fitch’s Head of DEI, Maria Angelica Perez, Marjan strives to create spaces that run on open communication and honest feedback.
Prior to joining Fitch Ratings, Marjan spent five years at Rabobank International in various roles, and worked in the securitisation group in its London branch before joining Fitch in 1999.
Marjan earned a degree in economics at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
