Director of External Reporting Developments, Aviva
Hugh Francis has more than 30 years’ experience in the insurance sector and has worked for Aviva since 2001 where he is Director of External Reporting Developments. Hugh is responsible for assessing and responding to future external regulatory, reporting and accounting developments, including Solvency II and IFRS which impact the Aviva Group.
Hugh chairs the ABI Financial and Corporate Reporting Committee (which includes sustainability reporting) and is a member of the ABI Prudential Financial and Taxation Committee. Hugh is a member of the EIOPA IRSG Stakeholder Group. He is Chairman of the CFO Forum Solvency II Working group, a member the CFO Forum Sustainability Reporting Working Group and is also a member of the CFO Forum Steering Committee where he closely liaises with the CRO Forum. He is Vice Chair of the Insurance Europe Corporate Reporting Group and a member of both the EFRAG Insurance Accounting Working Group and ICAEW Insurance sub-committee. In addition, Hugh leads Aviva’s external engagement with the International Association of Insurance Supervisors in the global regulatory context including the International Capital Standard and Sustainability developments.
Hugh is a member of Aviva’s Group Risk Leadership team and has also participated in several finance projects, including the conversion to IFRS, US listing and Solvency II implementation, having led work on the potential strategic and operational impact of IFRS and Solvency II developments. Hugh joined Aviva from Sun Life Financial of Canada having previously been a senior manager with PwC where he qualified as a chartered accountant and worked as a senior manager at PwC for a number of years. He was involved in audit, M&A and other insurance and financial services projects.
